James Thompson Duck Canvas: Canvas duck, sometimes called cotton duck or duck cloth; this textile is a heavy weight plain woven fabric. The phrase Duck Canvas derives from the Dutch word doek; meaning “linen canvas.” They created this name to differentiate canvas made from other fibers than traditional canvas; that have been typically produced from hemp. This duck canvas is woven with heavy weight threads and two warp threads so give reinforced strength. An excellent heavy weight canvas which has a large amount of home decor uses; an excellent sturdy fabric that you may possibly use to cover furniture, make accent pillows, cushions for dining-room chairs or window seats. This canvas is also great for stenciling, painting, silk-screening; which makes it simple to create one of a kind totes and bags. This canvas is in a classic Natural shade.

| Care Instructions | Care instructions for COTTON and cotton blend fabrics. My advice - wash your fabrics before you create your wonderful project. I don't always follow my own advice as I am anxious to start my quilt, or garment right now, but it is best to pre-wash your cotton fabric. When you wash bright or dark colored clothing for the first time, you probably wash it by itself. Most of us have washed a bright colored garment with white clothing and ended up with the white garment being discolored. Pre-washing allows the excess color pigments to be released (almost all of our fabrics are "color fast", so no problem with color pigments being released in washing, but pre-washing allows your fabric to take it's natural shape prior to making your quilt, garment or decor item made of cotton fabrics. It has been suggested that you wash a sample of the cotton fabric to see if any changes will occur, (but I don't bother as all of the fabric from Beverly's fabric and crafts is of superior quality). If you do test the fabric - cut an exact size and then wash, then measure and you can see if any change to size occurred. We suggest you use a liquid, color free detergent and don't use a fabric softener, bleach or scented detergents for cotton blends or 100% cotton fabrics. |
