Materials

  • Yellow T-Shirt
  • Small Headband
  • ¼ Yard Black Felt
  • 2 – 1 inch Styrofoam Balls
  • Yellow Acrylic Paint
  • Fine Black Floral Wire
  • Hot Glue
  • Fabric Tac™
  • Double-sided tape
  • Needle and Black Thread

  1. For the body lay a yellow t-shirt flat.
  2. Cut 3 strips from the black felt that are 3 inches wide each (for an adult size small shirt). You may choose to make your black strips either larger or smaller depending on the size of your t-shirt.
  3. Measure around your t-shirt so that you have enough felt to cover both sides. Cut the felt so that it will have two of the 3 inch pieces, one for the front of the shirt and one for the back.
  4. Turn your felt to the backside. Apply Fabric Tac™ glue to this side only.
  5. Carefully pick up glued felt on each side of the strip. Now, lay down across the front 1 ½ inches from the neckline. Smooth it down in a straight line across the shirt on both sides.
  6. Measure down from the bottom of the strip, 3 inches. Mark it with a pin. This will be where the top of the next strip will go.
  7. Repeat the gluing process with this strip. Leave 3 inches again and mark with a pin.
  8. Glue down the 3rd strip.
  9. Carefully turn over. Now, when you glue down, you are going to connect the sides together and glue down. Repeat for the next two strips.
  10. For the stinger, fold over a 12 inch by 2 inch scrap of felt. From this cut 2 - 6 inch triangles that curves up and to a point on the end and is flat at the open end.
  11. Sew close to the edges and turn inside out. Stuff with tiny scraps of snipped felt. Pack into the tip and fill.
  12. At the open end, sew around the opening and gather tight.
  13. Pin this “stinger” to the bottom center of the last black strip and stitch in place.
  14. For the headband, cut a 1 inch piece of felt to wrap around the band, for the length of the band.
  15. Put double-sided tape across the top of the headband.
  16. Take the wire and cut two 8 ½ inch pieces.
  17. Locate the placement of the wires on the top of the headband and push the end of the wire into the double-sided tape. Wrap around the headband to secure.
  18. Center the cut felt piece to the top center of the taped headband.
  19. Poke each of the wires through the felt as you are wrapping the felt around the band.
  20. Wrap the excess felt around the band and use a simple stitch with black thread to secure. Use caution as you are doing this so that you don’t poke yourself with the wire.
  21. Paint both of the 1 inch styrofoam balls with yellow acrylic paint. Let dry.
  22. When the balls are dry, put a slight drop of hot glue on the end and insert into the ball on each wire. If it needs another drop of hot glue where they connect, add it now.
